Party Shoes and Cocktails

Most days my daily footwear is dictated by the weather.

My shoe of choice is my trusty Birkenstocks. I've been wearing the same style for almost 20 years, I replace them every other year (a standard B-day gift from The Best Husband In The World) because they are worn to the cork.

When the weather turns cold I add socks. Geeky right?

Early morning dog walks have me wearing these.

Unless it's raining, then I wear these.

When I am working (cooking) I wear these.

But every now and then

I wear something like these.

They are the perfect accessory to these:

Cosmopolitans: makes 2

1 cup vodka of choice (I LOVE Tito's. A small distillery out of Texas. If you can find it, try it!)
1/2 cup Cointreau
Juice of 1/2 lime or splash Rose's lime juice
1/4 cup cranberry juice
Crushed ice

Fill a shaker with crushed ice. Add the vodka, Cointreau, lime and cranberry juice. Shake vigorously for 30 shakes. It HAS to be 30 shakes. Really hard. The perfect martini has tiny slivers of ice crystals floating on top. That keeps it cold from the first sip to the last.

Put your party shoes on and strain into two chilled martini glasses.
Repeat as necessary.

A Cook's Notes: There's more to The Good Cook than just food!

  1. I don't know how women can walk in high heels, but I sure am glad when they do!

  2. Beautiful! My daily footwear consists of flip flops. I switch to my trusty New Balances for dog walking. In the winter I often wear slip on tennis shoes to keep my toes warm.
I so seldom wear anything with more than a two inch heel that I typically have to practice a bit before I walk outside. What can I say; I'm much more about comfort!
    How is the rehab going?

  3. buffalo - you and every other man on the planet. And I will admit that heels make a woman's legs look great!

Whitney - I'm all about comfort too. And yes! I have to practice a bit. We have two big events coming up in October which will require dressing way up. The rehab is almost done. Just a bit of painting left to do. The home stretch. Thanks for asking!

  5. I loved wearing the highest heels I could get away with all the time but now I work at home and only work barefoot and never go anywhere. Those red shoes are inspiring~! Too much for the market?

  8. Marguerite - Cheers to you too!

Happy Hour - I think they are just perfect for the market - just depends what you are in the market for! ;-)

Eternally - The others are worn on a daily basis, no need for boxes there. :-D

Eva - don't all women have the same assortment? Love your travels.

  9. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I think I need to make a duo of those tonight for hubby and I. I'll skip the high heels though and opt for my french maid costume and bare feet (fibbing)

  13. Vavoom! One hot Mama in those shoes I bet!

I used to wear my birks with thick wool socks in the winter, then I figured out my feet needed more arch support. No more birks for me! Darn, love me Keens though.

  14. Those shoes are almost as delicious as a Cosmopolitan!

My husband has been getting on me for my excess of shoes. I am currently involved in a new project...

Wear all of my shoes until they are destroyed. I destroyed one pair, 15 more to go!
