She had asked me several weeks ago and I said yes.
When I woke up yesterday morning I started crying. TBHITW was my New York guy. He knew all the trains and subways and the best places to eat. I almost called Maureen to cancel.
But I didn't. I showered, took some deep breaths and told myself I could do this.
We navigated the trains like pro's. We arrived early enough to have a cocktail before the show.
I had not done any research on the play (of course I had seen the movie years ago) so imagine my delight and surprise when we arrived at the theater and the marquee read:

and
James Earl Jones
Be still my pounding heart! What a thrill to see living legends perform. Ms. Redgrave's grace and poise, Mr. Jones silken voice... Heaven.
After the show Maureen had made reservations at a beautiful Italian Restaurant close to the theater. We enjoyed a lovely meal with a shared bottle of wine. There were a few tears, but also some laughter. More laughter than tears.
Last night when I laid down in bed I realized that for the first time in many, many weeks I had a smile on my face. It was a good day.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great show that must have been. The smile makes me happy. I've been a bit absent lately but have thought of you often. I'm glad to see that there is the occasional bright spot.
ReplyDeleteAll - Yes, little steps. Most days I take two steps forward and one step back, but slowly, slowly, I'm getting to accept a new normal. Not the life I had dreamed of, but a new life. Different. With the help of my friends and family here and all of you out "there" I am growing and changing and forging ahead. Somedays are harder than others. But they are days. And each and everyone of us have faced and will face some sadness or tragedy in our lives. It is up to each one of us to find a way through this thing we call life. Thank you for continuing this journey with me. I know it would be that much harder if I had to travel alone.

ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks for you and your loss. I wish I could say I have known a love like yours. I know you know how lucky you are to have had it, but the heartbreak that comes with losing it must be so difficult to bear. I think you are doing wonderfully. Keep using your blog and leaning on your friends and family. You sound very blessed to have them all and your husband is surely looking down on you with pride.
