Digging Out and Gnocchi

Today the sun is shining and we are in the process of digging out. And digging and digging and digging.

Yesterday, in the time honored tradition of teenagers, the 16 year old kidadult and friends ventured out with shovels in hand in search of gainful employment. Twelve hours later he returned, shovel in hand and pockets stuffed with hard-earned cash.

Today, he toils at home and I will stuff his belly rather than his pockets. :-)

Gnocchi (serves 4)

Use frozen peas instead of the fresh peas mentioned in the recipe.

  1. Oh! I remember those days when we lived up north..waking up to the digging out...walking on the crunchy snow and everything is white with a tinge of blue...I loved it..then coming inside for fresh homemade hot chocolate made from scratch not a mix..and warming by the fire..I remember this with very fond memories..Marlene

  2. Marlene - it IS pretty when it is fresh and new. My favorite part? A big storm makes everything stop - if only for a short time.

  3. The snow is so clean and beautiful ..... unless there is a layer of ice under it!

I cannot imagine the mailman will be able to get around in all the white stuff?

  5. Kathy - our walk today was a bit treacherous. The weather man is predicting more snow for us Tuesday!

Tamis - he got through!! I guess they take their motto, through rain and snow and dark of night, seriously! Or was that just the pony express?

  6. Since I am not a fan of snow, I can sympathize. When I lived in Maryland, I used to wait anxiously for the neighborhood teenagers to come around and dig us out. Gnocchi looks great!

  7. It's great that they headed out to earn some money but shoveling. Good for them! The gnocchi will do him good, he certainly earned the calories.
