Corporate Responsibility - A Love Story

Bob's Red Mill: (Press Release from Specialty Food Magazine, April, 2010)

"Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods founder Bob Moore celebrated his 81st. birthday by transferring ownership of the company he founded with his wife in 1978, to its 209 employees. The company is headquartered in Milwaukie, Ore., where it produces 400 offerings of stone-ground flours, cereals and bread mixes at a 15-acre production facility. It also has a retail outlet."

I love Bob's Red Mill Flours - their whole wheat pastry flour is the best I've ever used. Stone ground corn meal - yum... rye flour, wheat, organic white, 7-grain... all over the top.

I love them even more now.

  1. What a cool thing to do. Great guy :0)

  2. I read this the other day and it gave me back just a little bit of the faith I lost in corporate America.

  3. We use all Red Mill flours and I visited their facilities regularly when I lived in Portland. My husband and I were talking about what he did with his company the other night. There is hope in the world!

  4. If only more people would take note of his actions...I'll have to check out their products.

  5. Eternally - I bet that is a great company to work for, even before his generosity

Kate - I'm thinking Red Mill is not your typical Corporate American Firm

Nancy - Yes! As long as there are people who pay it forward there is always hope.

Whitney - Red Mill products are top of the line, I really encourage you to use them.

  6. Oh I use all the Gluten/wheat free flours and baking mixes.. The best! I find that wonderful what he did.. I hope the 209 employee will maintain the same standards and quality that this product had..Its seems by making this decision ,he has confidence in his people to carry on...he didn't sell out like most companies do!

  7. Marlene - he must have a lot of love and respect for his employees.

Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love feedback... what with being a cook and all. I will respond to your comments via email (if you do not have a "noreply" address or here, below your comment) As always, Bon Appetite!
