Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday TBHITW. Our first without each other.

I remember:

When we were dating we spent your birthday with an incredible dinner out in "the city" (that's NY for anyone who lives outside of the NE) and then running in the "Firecracker Four Miler" the next day.

I remember instituting "Birthday Week" once we were married. Birthday week meant every day for a week a special something every day. Perhaps it was a croissant for breakfast, or a card secretly tucked into a briefcase or a favorite meal - maybe even just a cookie - just for you, but a special small remembrance of a life that everyone wanted to celebrate. Especially me. Because I loved you. Because I wanted to celebrate the you that made you you.

Tonight I will pour two glasses of wine. One for you and one for me. Sleep well love and Happy Birthday.

Last year on his birthday.

  1. It's crazy; you look at a picture of the guy, so "normal" looking, and I suppose you look for signs that he wasn't going to be here a year from then, but there aren't any, which is weird, because how could he be here one summer and gone the next, right? Hard to wrap your head around it... Thinking of you and sending sweet, loving vibes your way...

  3. Happy Birthday, to your dear husband. Still doesn't seem possible, does it? One year they are here with us celebrating, and the next they just aren't. It sucks bigtime!!

Two glasses of wine. I still do the same. One for hubby and one for me. I'm sure they are honoured by our thoughtfulness, and perhaps take a wee sip when we're not looking.

One day we will be together.
    Sending gentle hugs, my friend.

  5. It's been a long while since I've stopped in - my grandma blog sits silent, as I've moved onto other things. I was so terribly sad to read about your husband passing away last summer. Gently, quietly sending my positive thoughts to you...take care.

  7. I hope the celebration of your beloved's birth had some wonderful moments. You remind me of MY WIFE, in many ways. The time between March 2nd (my birthday) and April 18th (hers) is designated "Jim Sullivan Gift-Giving Season" (except during Leap Years, when we celebrate our anniversary, and so I get no birthday, at all.)

  8. Happy Birthday to your dear Jim. (Somehow my reader didn't pick up this post - I just found it.)

  9. You have been on my mind so much lately. I pray as August creeps closer you feel peace and a sense of pride. You have survived. You are a survivor. You are amazing. Hugs to you and belated Birthday wishes to TBHITW!

  11. I feel sure I must have commented on this before, but I see no comment of mine here. I must not have done something correctly.

In any case, be well. Live as though you will be reunited someday. My belief would have you so.

Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love feedback... what with being a cook and all. I will respond to your comments via email (if you do not have a "noreply" address or here, below your comment) As always, Bon Appetite!
