The Imaging Center

I went for my annual mammogram today at The Imaging Center.

I have gone to the same facility for the past nine years.

The receptionist asked me to update all my contact information.

Address: Same
Phone: Same
Email: Same
Insurance: change
Who to contact in case of emergency.........

Who to contact in case of emergency?

How many times over the years did I write in TBHITW's name and cell phone number. A hundred? A thousand? How many forms at how many doctor offices?

Who to contact in case of emergency?
My vision blurred as my eyes filled up with tears.

The receptionist was busy entering my new insurance information into the computer. She didn't notice my tears or my hesitation.

I finally took a deep breath and wrote in the line next to: Who to contact in case of emergency?

A DOCTOR

Humor helps sometimes.

  1. I hate this question. Always I hate it. I finally asked Cowgirl if she would. She of course, said yes. But ultimately it hurts. These people that ask the questions. They don't know how much it hurts.

  2. Ha. I am so glad you were able to find a bit of humor in the situation. I always hate that question for different reasons. It's very hard for me to determine who would actually answer the phone if it was an unrecognized number calling. Certainly not my husband. Best to stick with my MOTHER who lives in another state.

  4. Good for you. I am guessing that you will continue to run into painful moments like this, but I am certain that humor can sometimes help.

  5. I think that was a perfectly reasonable response.

  6. I teared up a little when I read this. I imagined my own reaction to such a thing, if I were without MY WIFE. God bless you (and I think the quick humor recovery was just that - good for you!)

  7. I've filled out so many of those forms for Joey that I'm now filling out sarcastic answers and they are getting attention. The doctors and nurses all giggle at my answers and it makes me feel better.

  8. Humor helps most of the time.

I had to go for observation yesterday and I was an emotional mess. The nurse asked me what # pregnancy this was and I said, "17". She just stared at me until I said, "I'm kidding" then she started laughing. It made me feel better.

  9. I am glad that you pulled out the humor. I am not a fan of those forms either. Listing children always brings me to tears right there in the waiting room.

P.S. You have now inspired me to schedule my mammogram (and join a pool). I have been putting it off because I don't want to go back to the OB - so, thank you!

  10. Yeah, cause there are so many mammogram emergencies.

"Oh, no! She's dead! We squished her boobs too hard!"

    Luckily, kind of uncommon.

  11. Hate mammograms. I am told I have dense breasts. I am not sure if that would be a compliment or an insult. I always put my daughters names on those forms. If something happened to me they would need to help their dad take care of me. I do agree, though, that a doctor would be the one to call in case of an emergency ........ or maybe 911?

  12. Just when I was ready to tear up again, you made me laugh outloud.
